Boathouse - Pacific Grove

2 Bedroom Partial Ocean View House

Located one block from scenic 17-Mile Drive, this cozy 2-bedroom + den bungalow is walking distance to the beach, golf, and downtown. Stroll to Lover's Point and hop on the coastal recreational trail to commune with sea, sky and sea lions. Or head a few blocks into town for breakfast at the Red House Cafe, or dinner at top-rated Passionfish or Fandango. Named after the owner's extensive boat collection, this single story home has a fireplace, hardwood floors, and a peek of Monterey Bay. There's a king bed in the master, two standard twins (38"x75") in the guest room, and a new queen sofa sleeper in the study. Both baths have walk-in showers lined in travertine. The backyard brick patio has a barbecue, a chiminea, and a rose garden: if you like to be close to town and close to nature, you'll feel right at home here. From the annual Butterfly Parade to the apple trees around Caledonia Park, there's a reason Pacific Grove is called "America's last hometown." A more casual—but no less charming—alternative to Carmel, Pacific Grove is a seaside enclave of restored Victorians and beach bungalows. And the walkable downtown has something for everyone: boutiques, galleries, antique and consignment shops, a cinema, a bookstore—and too many coffeehouses to count. less ↑

We stayed five weeks to get away from Wisconsin winters and our stay was wonderful. The house had everything we needed, and was comfortable. The down comforter was very cozy. Kitchen had all we needed. Garage was spacious and had extras in it such as beach chairs etc. We loved sitting on the back patio and listening to the waves from a few blocks away. PG had tons of restaurants, and Monterey was very close nearby with the wharf and a ton of shopping and restaurants. Roy's at Pebble Beach and the Lodge are just down the road on 17 mile drive. We saw whales from shore, and nearly every day saw sea otters in the ocean close to shore doing their thing. I'd return any time. less

For 28 days, my wife and I enjoyed a wonderful 28 day stay from mid-February to mid-March, 2020. The Boathouse was cozy and inviting with all of the amenities one could possibly want! It seemed like everyday was sunny & 62 degrees as we took our daily walk along Monterey Bay on Oceanview/Sunset Drive. When we wanted to switch things around, we would drive 15 minutes to walk on Camel Beach and Scenic Road in Camel. And/or......drive 20 minutes to walk and hike at Point Lobos. We also enjoyed The Boathouse being minutes away by foot from downtown Pacific Grove where we made regular stops at Pavel's Backerei and The Bookworks on Lighthouse Ave. Big thank you to Debra and Monterey Rentals for excellent coordination and communication. With the COVID-19 crisis, we did have to leave 9 days early yo return home. However, we look forward to returning in the future to pick up where we left off! FIVE STARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! less

Our 4th stay at Boathouse for four weeks in Jan./Feb. to escape East Coast winters. House is extremely comfortable and has all the "must haves" on our list. Although we eat at many of the great restaurants in the area, this time we did more cooking at the house using the full range of the up to date appliances and kitchen ware. Plenty of time to read, rest, sit in front of the gas fireplace and walk along the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Staff is always friendly and responsive. Although we will miss being at the house, when we return home we sing praises to our family and friends. less

The Boathouse met all of our expectations. We stayed with our son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter. It was close enough to the Aquarium and Cannery Row to walk. It was nice to have the use of the garage and be able to park our car inside. It was a quiet neighborhood. We even saw deer on our walks. The house has been updated, it was clean, and had everything we needed. We would definitely stay again. less

We’ve stayed in this house twice and I’m sure we’ll stay here again. It’s such an adorable house, so comfortable and has everything we need. It has an amazing yard with brick patio, we would have coffee there every morning and drinks in the evening. It’s two blocks to the ocean which makes for easy walks along the shore. Beautiful quiet neighborhood, we definitely recommend the Boat House. less

This was the third year we rented the Boathouse. As in past years the stay was wonderful: the house and its location met all our needs and more. Great memories. The Boathouse is a treasure.

Review

The boathouse was just what was needed for our little 4 day vacation. It was close to everything yet in a quiet neighborhood. The house was clean and spacious enough for the 3 of us (would be fine for 4). We did no cooking in the home, but it seemed to be well supplied with dishes/cookware. The little sunroom was a nice place to sit and read a book and the outside area, while small, was comfortable. The beds and bedding were high quality. The design of the master bathroom was a bit awkward--no way to turn on the shower without being under it, but not a game changer. Pacific Grove is a wonderful place to vacation being so close to Monterey, and we enjoyed bike rentals as well as kayaking in Moss Landing at Elkhorn Slough. less

We have stayed at this house several times and each time we have stayed, we have been even more inclined to stay again. While the home is large enough for more than just the two of us, we really like having the extra space. The location is also very convenient, with the Pacific Grove Lighthouse shopping district within easy walking distance. And certainly, we will stay here again! less

The perfect home for us for our short stop in Pacific Grove. So please we chose this location as we were able to walk out for breakfast and dinner and to the coast. The home is very well appointed with everything you need and to a very high standard. Debbie was very efficient with the whole booking process and arrival details are spot on. Thank you for making our stop on the Monterey Peninsula so enjoyable. less

A beautiful home with great attention to detail. We had a wonderful stay enjoying the local stops including the aquarium as well as traveling up to Big Sur The beds were very comfortable and the home was very spacious for our group of 4. We tried the local restaurants and we were pleased with the food. If I am back in California I would definitely return to this home! less

This property was outstanding. It is well equipped, delightfully laid out, and exceptionally clean. The location was steps away from a delightful Pacific Grove downtown, the Monarch butterfly preserve, and only a couple of blocks from the bay. An outstanding base for exploring the entire Monterey Bay area. Monterey Bay rentals offered excellent advice and made the whole experience simple. My wife and I are looking forward to another visit. less

Clean, comfortable, refreshingly relaxing. GREAT location. Even the sweetest personal maid-like touches made me feel quite welcomed & spoiled even! Debra at Monterey Rentals was a pure joy to work with as she accommodated every single need of mine, seamlessly. If it wasn't the lovely partial view of sailboats out on the ocean, it was the cozy study with boats galore on display - and a perfect breeeze through the large windows & even 3 deer crossing the road to top it all off!!! Exactly what my husband & I needed on his 48 hr leave from relentless firefighting AND my birthday. THANK YOU DEBRA! less

We had a wonderful week at the Boathouse. House had everything we needed. We were able to walk to Town of Pacific grove and to the water. Easy drive to Monterey, Fisherman's Wharf, Carmel & 17 mile drive.

This was our first family vacation to CA. We were visiting our oldest son that recently moved to CA after graduating college. I am so glad that I found Monterey Rentals online! The Boathouse was amazing! It was exactly what our family of four needed. The house & garden were absolutely beautiful ant the view of the ocean was spectacular. The neighborhood was quiet and close to everything. We loved our daily walks along the shore and to downtown Pacific Grove. All of the restaurants were amazing! As you can tell, we loved our trip & can't wait to go back!! I would HIGHLY recommend Monterey Rentals & the Boathouse! less

We have rented several different homes on our semi-annual jaunt to Pacific Grove, Monterey, Carmel and the Pebble Beach area. The Boathouse is our favorite among all of them. Great layout for adults and children, making the house feel much larger than its actual size. The furnishings, beds, linens, etc. are all top notch The house offers multiple seating options both inside and out, to be your home base for enjoying all that the peninsula has to offer, or simply just relax. The "Boat Room" is a private "museum" of a wonderful look at collector ships and touches of historical sea life. The large windows along the west side of the house give such a great view of the sea and a glimpse at Pacific Grove Golf Links- a must play course for those who enjoy golfing and deer! The house's location is perfect for sauntering into town up Lighthouse Blvd, with restaurants and shops of all kinds. Butterfly Grove and The Lighthouse, itself, are just a few blocks away, in opposite directions. The house sits just a few blocks from the ocean, as well, and its walking trail, small beaches, tidepool areas and is in very close proximity to to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and The Wharf for clam chowder tasting- Yum! We give The Boathouse a 5 Star+ rating! less

Had a wonderful stay in Pacific Grove & Monterey! Easy rental thru Monterey Rentals. "Boat House" was absolutely perfect for our family. Very clean and comfortable, with recently updated bathrooms, and everything we needed for our visit; TVs, DVD players, funky board games, binoculars, computer, and washer & dryer. Nicely decorated throughout and had a very homey feel. Kitchen had all the essentials. Enjoyed lovely patio/garden area for BBQ & s'mores. Added bonus was beautiful ocean view from living room and seeing deer at local golf course. Beach just a few blocks away & we saw whales, otters, & seals. 17-Mile Drive and Los Lobos State park should not be missed; such amazing views! ---Negatives: Garage is very tight, would not work for big autos. No computer printer. ---TIP: AAA members get Aquarium discounts by purchasing tickets at AAA office only (no AAA discount given at Aquarium ticket counters) & ticket allows entry at "members" gate (no lines!) less

We chose Pacific Grove for a few day’s stop for our family of four enroute from San Francisco to Santa Barbara. We absolutely loved the Boathouse. Located on a quiet street with views of the Pacific and Lover’s Point, the Boathouse is full of all the amenities you, plus unique and cozy decor and sitting areas as well as driveway parking. The succulent gardens and outdoor patio were delightful. We love the quieter nature of Pacific Grove with wonderful restaurants, cute shops, farmer’s market and movie theater and great bookstore/coffee shop all a very short walk from the house. Monterey Aquarium and Cannery Row are just a mile down the road easily accessible by a good walk, a car or the nearby bike path. 17 Mile Drive begins near the rental and Carmel is a quick trip down some of the most scenic coastline. Monterey Rentals was a pleasure to work with. We received great communication and very thorough information about the rental, policies and key pick up and return (which was super convenient by he Aquarium) with a drop box so you can come and go as you need to. The photos on the website are very accurate — the rental is adorable. We would highly recommend it for two couples or a family and would stay there again if we return to the area. less

The Boathouse was well appointed, well supplied, and just a few blocks from the Pacific Grove waterfront. After long days of hiking and sight-seeing, it was wonderful to return to a private escape. The beds were comfortable, kitchen complete, and living space conducive to family game nights. The neighborhood is quiet, mostly retired families. The cottage is walking distance to several nice restaurants and the village shopping center. All in all, it was a terrific central spot for a family vacation that took us north to Santa Cruz and south to Big Sur. less

This was our 12th year in renting properties for the winter months from Monterey Rentals. The service provided by the rental company and more importantly the agent(s), Debra,is top notch. This property has an excellent location with its proximity to the Monterey bay activities. If you are a boat lover, many on display. The central heating in this property could use some improvement, however portable units may fit the needs. The laundry area in the garage could use some improvement .Great Bay views and Joe Rhombies pizza is the best. less

Our family of 4 stayed at the Boathouse over Thanksgiving weekend. We arrived to find everything in perfect order. The house is cozy and welcoming with all the supplies you could need included. Even bath gels, shampoos, and a hairdryer like a hotel would supply! The location can't be beat - it is an easy walk to the ocean and the view out the living room windows is breathtaking. We easily walked down to the water on several mornings during our stay. The neighborhood was lovely and very quiet at night. A couple of observations - the garage is small and likely would not accommodate a large SUV. We have a smaller size SUV and the fit was pretty snug. Still, we were happy to be able to pull the car in for the night. My one suggestion for improvement would be the addition of a memory foam topper for the bed in the master bedroom. It was a bit stiff for our taste, but we doubled up one of the extra comforters we found in the closet as a makeshift topper and that worked well. The office area with computer was an added bonus as my daughter had homework and college applications to finish and this gave her a quiet place to work. All in all, a lovely and comfortable little house where it was easy to relax. We love PG and this house is definitely a hidden gem. less

My wife had mentioned to me that she wanted us all to visit Monterey Bay Aquarium for her 40th birthday. I was thinking she was expecting some new multi-carrot car-priced wedding ring and a huge catered surprise party. So I quickly started looking for hotel rooms in Monterey. I saw the boathouse was about the same price as the hotel rooms I was looking at and I thought "why not it seems like a nice place". The boathouse far exceeded all of our expectations, the value compared to a dinky hotel room is just ridiculous. Walking into it is like walking into one of those show homes for a nice development. The beds were comfortable, everything worked perfectly (internet, hot-water, tv -etc). Our kids even found that the coffee table was stocked with board games. One night we played a Pirates of the Caribbean - themed life game, they loved it. My wife now wants me to remodel our bathroom like the master bathroom in the boathouse. You have a clear view of the ocean our most of the windows, oh and of course they have binoculars and telescopes available to use. The neighborhood is picture perfect and quiet - and probably mostly populated by retired admirals. All in all I can't recommend the boathouse enough, our kids loved it, my wife was really impressed by it. The bar has been raised, on any future vacation I will probably hear "this isn't as good as the boathouse in Monterey"... less

Plush bedding and comfortable home made our stay terrific! The kitchen utensils and small appliance could use some updating. Mentioned to Howard when checking out that the Bullet mixer broke while I was trying to make my morning health drink. For premium rents, cookware should also be top notch. less

We were 2 couples vacationing up the coast. The Boathouse was just right for us. We walked to dinner one night and to the aquarium the next day. The wifi worked well. The house was clean and attractive. No bathtubs but nice showers in each bathroom. The backyard is very attractive, private, and has seating. Nice for having afternoon cocktails when the weather is good. less

We booked the Boathouse based on positive reviews and the photos listed on the website. We were not disappointed when we arrived at the house! Although the home looks somewhat modest from the outside, once you open the front door you realize how special the place is. There were just two of us, so the place had more than enough space for us and all of the stuff we brought along. Amenities were excellent, and the kitchen is well equipped. We prepared a dish for a potluck we were attending and the kitchen had everything we needed. Even some spices that we forgot to bring along. I would recommend the Boathouse to anyone wanting an alternative to staying in a (luxury) hotel. We certainly would not give a second thought to staying at the Boathouse again. less

We needed a home for our week's stay in early August. The home is ideally located and extremely comfortable for our family and needs. Any issue or questions we had were quickly answered by Debra, property manager. We appreciated her prompt calls and or emails. This was the 3rd home we had rented for our stay in PG and based on the other homes, I would recommend that the Boathouse provide the shower gel, hair shampoo/conditioner. I found the other homes to provide this and it really helped us as we were traveling from one location to another. Other than that, the home was fantastic and I would move in if I could! less
