Policies

MontereyRentals.com Policies - by checking “I have read and agree to these policies,” or by completing this reservation, accepting keys or taking occupancy to the Premises, I signify my acceptance of and agreement with the policies herein.

Check in time is 3 pm.  Check out time is 11 a.m.

Cancellations

This Agreement may be cancelled up to 60 days prior to arrival. The full amount of the rental is due within 60 days of arrival and is non-refundable after that date. The down payment, made at the time of the reservation, is completely non-refundable.

A $35 change fee will be charged to the credit card used to make the original reservation for any change to an existing reservation.

Occupancy

The Premises are located in a residential neighborhood that includes both short-term guests and year-round residents who enjoy living in a tranquil environment. Maximum occupancy rates are strictly enforced.

Special events and/or large parties, such as weddings, receptions, rehearsal dinners, birthday/anniversary celebrations, are strictly prohibited, and are a violation of the rental property owner's rental permit. A small dinner party or gathering for no more than one and one half times the number of guests who are accommodated at the Premises is permitted.

Note: If you are planning an event during your stay, please be sure you have arranged for a venue other than the Premises (contact us for suggestions of alternate venues). If you did not understand these policies when you booked your reservation and wish to cancel your stay, please contact us within 24 hours of making your reservation, and we will fully refund any payment made and cancel any future obligation.

Security Deposits and Accidental Damage Safeguard

Security deposits (if any) are charged to the credit card used to secure the reservation seven days prior to arrival and returned seven days after departure, or an itemized statement indicating the basis for and the disposition of the deposit or any part of it will be provided.

Security deposits, if any, will be held in the trust account of Monterey Bay Vacation Rentals. All or any portion of the security deposit, upon termination of occupancy, may be used as reasonably necessary, to (i) pay any sums still due; (ii) repair damage, excluding ordinary wear and tear, caused by the occupants, by any guests, or by any licensees of the occupants; (iii) clean the Premises; (iv) replace or return personal property or appurtenances.

Accidental Damage Safeguard (“ADS”) is a non-refundable fee for which Monterey Bay Vacation Rentals assumes the liability associated with minor accidental damages to the rented premises or its contents during occupancy relative to this reservation. ADS is not insurance, nor should it be interpreted as such. ADS allows Monterey Bay Vacation Rentals to waive occupants’ responsibility for reported accidental damage up to a maximum aggregate amount of $1,500.00.

ADS becomes effective upon check-in (and may not be purchased after check-in) and terminates upon departure of the occupants or at 11 am on the last day of the rental term (“check-out time”), whichever occurs first. Unreported damages, non-accidental damages, excluded damages, or damages exceeding $1,500.00 dollars are the sole responsibility of the occupants. The purchase of ADS does not in any way negate occupants’ responsibility to care for the Premises as if it were occupants’ own home. The cost to repair damage attributable to occupants or occupants’ invitees due to intentional acts, willful misconduct, gross negligence, abuse of the Premises, violation of these rental policies, or animals will not be paid under the ADS, and remain the responsibility of the occupants.

Damage must be reported to Monterey Bay Vacation Rentals prior to “check-out time.” The ADS applies only to loss or damage to the rented premises or its contents. The applicability of ADS to damaged property (and any determination of the extent of damage and/or the cost of repairs thereof) shall be in the sole and absolute discretion of Monterey Bay Vacation Rentals.

Note:  We understand that accidents happen. You obviously do, too, since you have made this purchase—so please do not hesitate to contact us if accidental damage occurs during your stay. We want to know about it, so that 1) your ADS is applicable, and 2) we can make repairs for both you and future guests.

I recently traveled to Northern California to visit San Francisco, Napa and Monterey! I'm so glad we left the best for last! Love the area, great access to the ocean and the accomodations couldn't have been better. The Monterey Boathouse met all our expectations and would stay there again in a heartbeat. It was so close to the ocean with a wonderful walking/running path. The location gave us the option to access everything that Monterey and Carmel on the Sea has to offer. The house was great. I stayed there with my husband and another couple and it allowed us both some alone time. The garden was a very peaceful place to read and just enjoy the quietness!

Located one block from scenic 17-Mile Drive, this cozy 2-bedroom + den bungalow is walking distance to the beach, golf, and downtown. Stroll to Lover's Point and hop on the coastal recreational trail to commune with sea, sky and sea lions. Or head a few blocks into town for breakfast at the Red House Cafe, or dinner at top-rated Passionfish or Fandango.

Named after the owner's extensive boat collection, this single story home has a fireplace, hardwood floors, and a peek of Monterey Bay. There's a king bed in the master, two standard twins (38"x75") in the guest room, and a new queen sofa sleeper (plus a desk/computer) in the study. Both baths are completely redone with walk-in showers lined in travertine. The backyard brick patio has a barbecue, a chiminea, and a rose garden: if you like to be close to town and close to nature, you'll feel right at home here.

From the annual Butterfly Parade to the apple trees around Caledonia Park, there's a reason Pacific Grove is called "America's last hometown." A more casual—but no less charming—alternative to Carmel, Pacific Grove is a seaside enclave of restored Victorians and beach bungalows. And the walkable downtown has something for everyone: boutiques, galleries, antique and consignment shops, a cinema, a bookstore—and too many coffeehouses to count.

If it wasn't the lovely partial view of sailboats out on the ocean, it was the cozy study with boats galore on display - and a perfect breeeze through the large windows & even 3 deer crossing the road to top it all off!!! We have rented several different homes on our semi-annual jaunt to Pacific Grove, Monterey, Carmel and the Pebble Beach area. The Boathouse is our favorite among all of them. Great layout for adults and children, making the house feel much larger than its actual size. The furnishings, beds, linens, etc. are all top notch The house offers multiple seating options both inside and out, to be your home base for enjoying all that the peninsula has to offer, or simply just relax. The "Boat Room" is a private "museum" of a wonderful look at collector ships and touches of historical sea life. The large windows along the west side of the house give such a great view of the sea and a glimpse at Pacific Grove Golf Links- a must play course for those who enjoy golfing and deer! The house's location is perfect for sauntering into town up Lighthouse Blvd, with restaurants and shops of all kinds. Butterfly Grove and The Lighthouse, itself, are just a few blocks away, in opposite directions. The house sits just a few blocks from the ocean, as well, and its walking trail, small beaches, tidepool areas and is in very close proximity to to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and The Wharf for clam chowder tasting- Yum! We give The Boathouse a 5 Star+ rating!

Very clean and comfortable, with recently updated bathrooms, and everything we needed for our visit; TVs, DVD players, funky board games, binoculars, computer, and washer & dryer. Nicely decorated throughout and had a very homey feel. Kitchen had all the essentials. Enjoyed lovely patio/garden area for BBQ & s'mores. Added bonus was beautiful ocean view from living room and seeing deer at local golf course. Beach just a few blocks away & we saw whales, otters, & seals. 17-Mile Drive and Los Lobos State park should not be missed; such amazing views! ---Negatives: Garage is very tight, would not work for big autos. No computer printer. ---TIP: AAA members get Aquarium discounts by purchasing tickets at AAA office only (no AAA discount given at Aquarium ticket counters) & ticket allows entry at "members" gate (no lines!)

We chose Pacific Grove for a few day’s stop for our family of four enroute from San Francisco to Santa Barbara. We absolutely loved the Boathouse. Located on a quiet street with views of the Pacific and Lover’s Point, the Boathouse is full of all the amenities you, plus unique and cozy decor and sitting areas as well as driveway parking. The succulent gardens and outdoor patio were delightful. We love the quieter nature of Pacific Grove with wonderful restaurants, cute shops, farmer’s market and movie theater and great bookstore/coffee shop all a very short walk from the house. Monterey Aquarium and Cannery Row are just a mile down the road easily accessible by a good walk, a car or the nearby bike path. 17 Mile Drive begins near the rental and Carmel is a quick trip down some of the most scenic coastline. Monterey Rentals was a pleasure to work with. We received great communication and very thorough information about the rental, policies and key pick up and return (which was super convenient by he Aquarium) with a drop box so you can come and go as you need to. The photos on the website are very accurate — the rental is adorable. We would highly recommend it for two couples or a family and would stay there again if we return to the area.

Our family of 4 stayed at the Boathouse over Thanksgiving weekend. We arrived to find everything in perfect order. The house is cozy and welcoming with all the supplies you could need included. Even bath gels, shampoos, and a hairdryer like a hotel would supply! The location can't be beat - it is an easy walk to the ocean and the view out the living room windows is breathtaking. We easily walked down to the water on several mornings during our stay. The neighborhood was lovely and very quiet at night. A couple of observations - the garage is small and likely would not accommodate a large SUV. We have a smaller size SUV and the fit was pretty snug. Still, we were happy to be able to pull the car in for the night. My one suggestion for improvement would be the addition of a memory foam topper for the bed in the master bedroom. It was a bit stiff for our taste, but we doubled up one of the extra comforters we found in the closet as a makeshift topper and that worked well. The office area with computer was an added bonus as my daughter had homework and college applications to finish and this gave her a quiet place to work. All in all, a lovely and comfortable little house where it was easy to relax. We love PG and this house is definitely a hidden gem.

My wife had mentioned to me that she wanted us all to visit Monterey Bay Aquarium for her 40th birthday. I was thinking she was expecting some new multi-carrot car-priced wedding ring and a huge catered surprise party. So I quickly started looking for hotel rooms in Monterey. I saw the boathouse was about the same price as the hotel rooms I was looking at and I thought "why not it seems like a nice place". The boathouse far exceeded all of our expectations, the value compared to a dinky hotel room is just ridiculous. Walking into it is like walking into one of those show homes for a nice development. The beds were comfortable, everything worked perfectly (internet, hot-water, tv -etc). Our kids even found that the coffee table was stocked with board games. One night we played a Pirates of the Caribbean - themed life game, they loved it. My wife now wants me to remodel our bathroom like the master bathroom in the boathouse. You have a clear view of the ocean our most of the windows, oh and of course they have binoculars and telescopes available to use. The neighborhood is picture perfect and quiet - and probably mostly populated by retired admirals. All in all I can't recommend the boathouse enough, our kids loved it, my wife was really impressed by it. The bar has been raised, on any future vacation I will probably hear "this isn't as good as the boathouse in Monterey"...

We booked the Boathouse based on positive reviews and the photos listed on the website. We were not disappointed when we arrived at the house! Although the home looks somewhat modest from the outside, once you open the front door you realize how special the place is. There were just two of us, so the place had more than enough space for us and all of the stuff we brought along.

Amenities were excellent, and the kitchen is well equipped. We prepared a dish for a potluck we were attending and the kitchen had everything we needed. Even some spices that we forgot to bring along.

I would recommend the Boathouse to anyone wanting an alternative to staying in a (luxury) hotel. We certainly would not give a second thought to staying at the Boathouse again.

We appreciated her prompt calls and or emails. This was the 3rd home we had rented for our stay in PG and based on the other homes, I would recommend that the Boathouse provide the shower gel, hair shampoo/conditioner. I found the other homes to provide this and it really helped us as we were traveling from one location to another. Other than that, the home was fantastic and I would move in if I could!

My sister and I recently stayed three nights at the boathouse in Pacific Grove. We wished we could have stayed longer. It was so comfortable and felt like home to us. The house is beautifully decorated and very clean, and I'm fussy! It had everything we needed. We cooked dinner each night because we both like to cook, and found the kitchen very easy and had everything you could imagine you would need. My advise would be to park your car in the garage, which we did after the first night, because the Monterey Pine does drop sap on your car. We will definitely book this house again next year for our "sister's vacation".

There were spiders inside the bed. The real estate agent didnt respond to questions when asked repeatedly. As soon as she got money.....no response. Property was fine, the finishes were nice, more comfortable than hotel for our needs. Great area to walk to and from ocean front. The property management was another story.....I do not recommend them as professionals.

Manager Response

I'm really struggling with how to respond to this review because it was written in June 2014 about a stay in November 2013, and this is the first time I've heard about spiders in the bed.

The Boathouse is on a quarterly pest control program, but we do live in a forested area. If insects are found, our guests need only call our 24 hour maintenance line to have the issue dealt with immediately.

As far as the communication issue, I always try to answer all my calls and emails the same day. Please read my other reviews, as I am often complemented on my professionalism and prompt customer service.

I am unable to determine who wrote this review, but I would really appreciate it if the guest would contact me so I could apologize for any issues they experienced and/or my lack of response to their concerns.

Enjoyed our stay however as the couple who flipped the coin for the twin room it was disappointingly small and quality of bedding did not compare to king room. The sheets were brushed cotton on one bed which I had to change as they were very rough. Single beds very small, I am 5'6" not very tall and feet reaching the bottom of the bed. I was glad we were only there for 3 nights. Photos gave impression that twin room was a fair size! There was not a lot of room to move with our large cases on the floor. One couple with 2 small children would have been very comfortable but not two couples. I would recommend a comment re this be included in description!

Manager Response

Dear Guest: I wish I would have known about these issues while you were here so I could have tried to solve them, or failing that, moved you to another property where you would have been more comfortable.

Since there are lots of high quality linens in this home, I have a feeling the housekeepers inadvertently put an older sheet set (or possibly flannel sheets) on the twin beds. When the next guest leaves I'll inventory the linens and remove any sheets that are not up to par.

As to the size of the beds, they are standard Twins (not XL). I will add something to the description to indicate that they may be better suited for children than adults. And I'm sorry there wasn't more room to move with large suitcases on the floor: like most homes in Pacific Grove, this is a bungalow (and at 1,400 square feet, it's actually larger than most!).

Great option to stay at Pacific Grove.

Great location in Pacific Grove as it is close to the ocean and street with best restaurants in town. The property is well furnished with paper items, soap, garbage bags, tissue paper, linens and towels and every basic need you will need. We had a brand new coffeemaker. House has Wifi and computer. One car garage with electric operated door. It was clean and well decorated with boats of all types. Nice a cozy backyard. The property manager was very attentive to our needs and responded to one call related to the dishwasher. Other than that the check-in and check-out process was very simple. The property even offered Monterey Bay Aquarium passes (2) which we did use and enjoyed.

The home is lovely with quality details which we all appreciated. We do recommend that the bedroom with the twin beds replace the beds and mattresses. The beds squeak and every time you move during the night, the squeaks are loud and awaken you. The mattresses are quite uncomfortable, too. Would also be good if there were at least some staples in the kitchen like salt, pepper, etc. Monterey Rentals is a really good company to work with and we especially appreciate Debra for her attentiveness and help. Thank you.

Manager Response

We're so sorry to hear you were troubled by creaky bedsprings - they are premium Serta beds (less than a year old), and yours is the first complaint we've had. We do keep basic spices in the home, but they are in the cabinet above the oven. Unfortunately you are the second guest who hasn't found them, so we will either move them to a different cabinet or label this one!

This home ranks #1 of all our vacation rental experiences! The cleanliness, design of home, decore, location rates a 10 in our opinion. The bathrooms were updated and beautiful! Workable kitchen with beautiful appliances. The master bedroom was quiet with comfy bed and lots of storage space! Ocean view was bonus and my husband loved the office/den. The coastal decor was tastefully done and eye catching! The only thing we could think of that would add to the positive experience would be a few additional kitchen amenities such as common spices, paper towels that we found in other rentals.

I travel to the area frequently on business and always rent homes for my stay. I have stayed in many homes and this was by far the best for my taste. It was very clean, very quiet, very comfortable, well stocked for living, and in a perfect location. I so enjoyed looking out and seeing the water from the window. I walk every day and it was very close to the ocean path. I really can't think of one thing I didn't like about this home.I will book it for every stay if it is available.

My husband and myself and our two children ages 9&13 enjoyed our trip to Pacific Grove very much. The Boat House was a very pleasant surprise. A family of four fits very comfortably in this property. We were able to walk to the most beautiful beach in California and into town for meals etc. and were a very short drive from anything else we desired to do. The aquarium passes were a very big plus and it was a lovely experience. The beds and linnens were of very good quality.

My suggestions for the property are as follows:

Have printed instructions for wi-fi access and television remotes.

Leave coffee, creamer butter and other essentials in the fridge that other guests may have left behind as a convenience for new guests. Keep spices and other dry goods in the pantry if another customer chooses to leave them. Other homes we have rented have more well stocked pantries with basic supplies, sugar, creamer, boxed cereal etc. Most of us shop well when renting these types of places and know that I personally left many brand new un opened items behind. This is a very nice convenience for arriving guests. I could not even find sugar for my coffee or honey for tea. The shelves were completely empty in the boat house. No salt, pepper, sugar etc.

I would paint the exterior of the home white or yellow and give the home a fresh new look from the exterior. The very drab fawn color detracts from the true charm and beauty of the home and gardens.

I would include a book of "things to do" local eateries and take out menus. In other homes we have rented, we have relied heavily on this sort of information.

Last but not least, quality bath robes and slippers would be a huge perk for guests. I would even have them embroidered with "boat house" on the front pocket for added panache.

All in all, we loved the place! We do plan to come back again soon :))

Thank you,

Robin Compagno

We loved the house, the location, the weekend. And of course October is perfect coast weather for Ca. Definitely on our list to come back and bring our friends and family. The setup was perfect and tons of room for a get together. The one change I would suggest is the coffee maker. It takes forever to brew a pot. I would suggest a Kuerig machine as it can do both the preset pods or has a filter to bring your own and brew.Otherwise...Loved it!!!

Cute place. Nice sea shell displays around but no DVD player. Nice boat displays around the house but only 2 covered microwave dishes to cook in. Nice pictures on the walls but we had to wash the dishes and pots/pans before we could use them. Nice throw pillows but not a single fan in the house (including restrooms) to move any air after a shower or cool the house on a warm day. Nice view of the bay (through the power lines) but a cable package that doesn't even get the Science channel, National Geographic or DIY. Bed is comfortable and the furniture is good. Mildew stained shower curtain and several lengths and colors of human hair on the back of the bathroom door and wall.

Garage door opener is mounted too low to park a PU or SUV inside.

With one days work and a few hundred dollars this could be a very nice place. We were there for 30 days but until the details are taken care of the cute accent pieces and comfortable furniture do not balance out the things a person needs to make it a pleasurable experience. Style over Substance.

Manager Response

It always distresses us when we hear about how we could have improved a guest's experience after the fact—when it's too late to do anything about it. With a one minute phone call to our 24/7 maintenance line or a quick text to the property manager, these issues (with the possible exception of fitting an SUV in the garage) could have been addressed the same day (especially since the owner of this particular home always goes above and beyond to insure his guest's satisfaction).

There are three new flat screen TVs, along with a premium cable package with more than 100 channels, plus On Demand, HDTV and Starz. For our customers who stay for a month, we frequently adjust the cable package - but we have to know what your preferences are. And no DVD player? Just ask. (After we realized there was no DVD, we had a new BluRay delivered the same day.)

Since we've have had nothing but raves about the housekeeping in this home, we are surprised that you felt you had to re-wash all the dishes (unless that was your personal preference). But again, we have a 24-hour maintenance line for just this purpose: if something isn't up to your standards, let us know and we'll fix it.

Lastly, because the weather is so temperate in Pacific Grove, no one has ever mentioned needing a fan, but there are large windows in the bathrooms to allow the cool Pacific breezes in, and there is a portable fan in the second bedroom closet.

It is the philosophy of Monterey Bay Vacation Rentals that our guests should need to bring nothing with them except their clothes and their groceries. We sincerely hope that if you visit again you'll feel comfortable enough to express your concerns immediately - our mission is to make your vacation experience the best it can be.

We booked a last minute stay for Memorial Day weekend, and were pleasantly surprised at how nice this property was. We didn't have a lot of choice and were worried about what a "last minute" property would be like, but the property was perfect for 2 couples. We each had a bathroom and the house was immaculate with everything we needed. Although it wasn't on the beach, we were close, and it was a very convenient location, a block from the main road through Monterey and Pacific Grove. We will definitely consider staying here again.
